The College of William & Mary

Team,

Congratulations! Wayne Boy, Director of Facilities, Planning, Design, and Construction, has picked the Lake Matoaka Dam Remediation as a project to receive an award of excellence from the College of William and Mary. Thanks again for your hard work in such an environmentally delectate and publicly high profile job.

With that said, we would like to invite the project team to the site for a photo session on October 4th (rain date will be the 6th). Present should be an A/E representative, Contractor onsite supervisor, Contractor Project Manager, and another member of the Contractor team at their choice.

Again, thank you for the great job performed on this project and we look forward to working with you again in the future.

Their craftmanship and workmanship speak for themselves.

During the winter of 1998 we had extension damage to our pier due to back to back northeaster's. We live on the James River with have over 2 miles of open water and are exposed to the northeast winds. During Hurricane Isabel, the tides and waves stripped all the decking from our pier and destroyed the boathouse. It was after Isabel that I contacted Henry and asked him to look at rebuilding our pier and boathouse. We know that living on the water brings storms that can damage property, but wanted to make sure that we made every effort to minimize damage from the "inevitable" next storm. Henry and Edwin made recommendations that proved their worth soon enough. That storm came just weeks ago when my wife and I were vacationing in Idaho. Ernesto turned out to be a sleeper of a storm. I called my neighbor and asked him to check on our pier and boathouse. He called back later and told me the pier was underwater and the boathouse was fine. When the tide receded, the pier was completely intact and just needed to have the debris removed.

This was the first time the wave action and the tides did not damage our pier since it was built over 10 years ago by another contractor. With fetches over 2 miles long, the strong northeast winds can push the tides up abnormally and create huge wave action. Once again, their work speaks for itself.
